Importing Data
Previous  Top  Next

The main tables (Family, Member, Attendance and Tithes) all have an import button on the browse screen. This button will allow you to import data from any of several file formats, and if needed, filter the data to be imported by creating a query condition prior to importing. The screen shots below show the process of importing member information. The same procedures apply to importing for all the other tables as well.

chooseformat
You may have more or less options than above. However, .xls, .mdb, .csv and .dbf should be available and hopefully your data you want to import will be in one of these formats. The default is XLS since so many seem to have Microsoft Excel. The next step would be to click the button with the ... on it to select the file, or browse to a directory containing files of the type you want to import.

The next step is to select the fields you want to import. Just drag and drop columns on the left to the right side column or highlight a field and click the arrow to copy it to the right side column.

After clicking the Next button, you will be shown a screen where you can "match" your fields with the fields in the destination table. Clicking the Arrow key with a + sign will make a "guess" based on column/field names. Then just continue to drag and drop any other fields to the matching field.

You would next have the option to apply a filter to only import certain records. This is optional, but may be useful in some cases.

The next screen allows you to select a sort order, and again this is not really needed.

You will then see the records displayed above that shows your data you are about to import.

Click Next and your data will be imported, and a Finish button will be displayed. When you click that button you will be returned to the browse screen for the table where you were importing data.

I hope this new import function is helpful to you.
